Committees
Action Brown County depends on its committees and the volunteers who serve on them to work on behalf of Brown County’s communities and the residents who live here. Below are summaries of the charge for each committee.
ECONOMIC GROWTH COMMITTEE
Purpose: To stimulate an economic environment that catalyzes existing business success and new investment in Brown County.
Scope of Work:
To understand existing business opportunities and threats
To collaborate with local, regional, and state resources to offer existing businesses the support they need to thrive in Brown County
To connect existing businesses with one another through a business sub-committee and to maximize their collective attraction to customers
To solicit and secure ABC business members and financial support
To identify and complete unresolved action items from the Mt. Sterling Uptown Long-Range Strategic Plan
To spur new business development in Brown County
Manage and expand the BC Bucks and Shop Local programs

HORNET SPIRIT COMMITTEE
Purpose: To encourage a vibrant Brown County school system through the promotion of Brown County schools, the encouragement of teachers, and the gathering of the entire community as partners in education.
Scope of Work:
To produce at least monthly ads/articles in the Democrat-Message and on social media to highlight Brown County schools
To encourage teachers and demonstrate community support (e.g., meals during parent-teacher conference days)
To organize and execute an annual teacher appreciation event (February Fling) for Brown County school faculty and staff
To review all Brown County teacher grant applications submitted to the Community Foundation and make funding recommendations to the ABC Board
To organize and execute an annual Back-to-School Fair with partner organizations
To explore other ways to encourage BC teachers, staff, and to promote education

COMMUNITY EVENTS COMMITTEE
Purpose: To organize and execute events in Brown County that will foster community and fun for all ages.
Scope of Work:
To recruit a chair and event committee for all ABC Events each year
To support individual event committees and ensure they have the support they need to succeed
To coordinate with ABC business partners for event sponsorship and planning
To explore innovations to existing events or to pursue new events for Brown County
To assess each ABC event through measurable goals and post-event assessments, monitoring progress over time
To share photos, event details, and other pertinent information with the ABC Marketing Committee to ensure proper promotion

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS COMMITTEE
Purpose: To develop and coordinate marketing and outreach activities which promote Action Brown County and strengthen collaborative partnerships with our communities.
Scope of Work:
To assist the ABC Events Committee to ensure that ABC’s role is prominently featured at each ABC event
To utilize social and traditional media to promote ABC events, programs, and projects
To develop a centralized Brown County web portal that consolidates where Brown County should go for information across the County
To maintain a web-based Brown County community calendar and distribute a physical calendar annually
To develop an annual printed business directory featuring all county businesses and spotlighting business partners.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
Purpose: To foster Brown County community pride through programs, projects, and recognition.
Scope of Work:
To coordinate and execute Brown County awards that would encourage community pride, such as “Yard of the Month,” and other recognition
To design and execute Brown County beautification projects and programs
To work with the ABC Events Committee to ensure that ABC events celebrate and showcase the Brown County community (e.g., Scarecrow Contest, Christmas light decorations, etc.)
To maintain existing Brown County Pride initiatives, including the Main Street trees, mural, and Uptown landscaping
To identify and lead new efforts to build Brown County community pride, including Mt. Sterling gateway signage and additional uptown murals
